The Dos and Don’ts of Caring for Your Dentures Oct 9, 2019
In order to keep your dentures looking and feeling good, it is important to take excellent care of them. Here are some essential dos and don’ts.
Denture Dos
Clean your mouth after removing them. Keep your mouth healthy by using a soft toothbrush to gently clean your gums and tongue.
Remove and rinse them after eating. Carefully use lukewarm water to remove food and other particles.
Soak your dentures overnight. Most sets of teeth require moisture to keep their shape. Check with your dentist and follow manufacturer instructions for soaking yours properly.
Brush your plate at least once a day. Soak your set daily and brush them with a nonabrasive denture cleanser. Be sure to remove all food, plaque, and other particles. Also clean the grooves that fit against your gums and remove adhesive.
Schedule regular dental check ups. Your dentist can advise you on best practices for keeping your dentures in good condition. They can also ensure a proper fit and and avoid discomfort.
Denture Don’ts:
Use damaging toothbrushes and cleansers. Stiff-bristled brushes and harsh cleansers and toothpaste may damage dentures.
Use bleaching products. These products can weaken or damage dentures and change their color.
Use whitening toothpastes. These toothpastes are often damaging and should be avoided.
Use hot water. Hot or boiling water may morph the shape and fit of your dentures.
Following these dos and don’t should help you keep your dentures in mint condition. You should consult your dentist if you have questions or concerns and schedule routine check-up visits!
